Mushroom Spreadable Treat/Kong Stuffing Recipe For Dogs
Did you know that your dog can share in your love of mushrooms? This simple pate is a great alternative to other spreadable treats. Unlike peanut butter, it’s low in fat, but it’s just as flavorful, not to mention packed with protein.
Use it to stuff their Kong to keep them entertained, or even freeze it in their Kong for a longer-lasting treat. It’s also great for spreading on your dog’s Licki Mat or even on the wall of your bathtub to keep your dog happy during bathtime.
Mushroom Spreadable Treat/Kong Stuffing Recipe For Dogs
Ingredients
- 8 ounces white button mushrooms (or mushroom variety of your choice)
- 4 ounces pure pumpkin puree (optional)
- 4 ounces cooked sweet potato puree (optional)
- 4 ounces unsweetened applesauce (optional)
- 2 tablespoons low fat shredded cheese (optional)
- 1 tablespoon quick oats, whole or ground
- Dog-friendly seasonings, e.g. cinnamon, basil, parsley, oregano
Instructions
- Finely grind mushrooms in your food processor, with stems.
- Add seasonings.
- Saute on medium heat for 3-8 minutes until desired consistency. You'll create a paste that can be made thicker if you give excess moisture time to evaporate.
- You can use the mushroom mixture as-is or mix in other ingredients your dog loves to create desired consistency.
